I have spent 2 months learning Russian in ProBa language centre. Before I have arrived I made the online test, which helped a lot to choose the group level, when I started the course.
Our group was focusing to the oral ability, why I was really happy about, because my main goal was communicate freely with people. Oleg and Katya were very enthusiastic even in our "bad" moments:)
The atmosphere was amazing, we had really good time in and outside the class.
My landlady gave me great hospitality, special food, so I lost 10 kilos what was even bigger step to me than the course!:)
I suggest to go before August that is a little bit crowded!

I was accommodated
in the school hostel. Excellent accommodation + good location.
The individual course with Stas definitly the best language
course I've ever done, as he provided grammar and topics
according to my interest and additionally explained me something
about the Russian culture as well as his experiences of travelling.
I can really recommend taking lessons with him. I'm already
coming again next year. |

Le centre du langage
PROBA est un lieu chaleureux où l'on rencontre toutes les
nationalités, une adresse facile à trouver, en plein centre de
Saint-Pétersbourg, une oreille attentive aux désidératas et
besoins des divers étudiants et surtout une réelle efficacité !
Je suis là depuis
une semaine (je suis arrivée en connaissant l'alphabet
cyrillique)
et je commence déjà à pouvoir comprendre et exprimer des choses
simples (acheter, me déplacer, échanger quelques phrases,
quelques idées), merci Stanislas, mon professeur patient!
Tous à PROBA parlent plusieurs langues, dont le français,
pratique les premiers jours..
L'immersion totale est vraiment le choix idéal pour apprendre le
Russe... ou se perfectionner!

Wie findet man aber
eine gute Sprachschule in St. Petersburg wenn man nie in
Russland war und auch kein Russisch spricht?
Meine ersten
Schritte waren Google und Reisebüros, diese haben mich aber
nicht überzeugt. Dann habe ich im Freundeskreis nachgefragt und
erfuhr von einem Freund dass er in St Petersburg auf eine
Sprachschule war, die er mir sofort empfiehl.
Am nächsten Tag war
ich schon mit Herrn Oleg Prokofjev von der Proba Sprachschule in
Kontakt gewesen! Aufgrund der professionellen Haltung und
umgehenden Bearbeitung aller meiner Fragen habe ich mich für
ProBa entschieden.
Die Schule ist klein
und damit überschaubar. Dadurch ist die Beziehung zwischen den
Schülern und den engagierte Lehrern persönlich und intensiv, so
dass auf brisante Situationen jeweils sehr unmittelbar und
angemessen reagiert werden kann.
In ProBa herrscht
eine angenehme Atmosphäre. Die Schule bietet individuelle
Einzelunterrichte sowie Gruppenkurse. Im Einzelunterricht werden
die Inhalte optimal auf die Vorkenntnisse angepasst.
Ich kann diese
Sprachschule nur sehr weiterempfehlen, hier ist man in besten

My host family was wonderful, Elena would sit with me at breakfast and dinner and listen to my awful attempts at speaking Russian. Very patient, warm, included me in her daily life, v. good advice of seeng St. Petersburg, gave me English lang. books on the city. An amazing experience! Being my first time for everything to do with Russia and St. Petersburg, the school provided the perfect "base" from which to "fly" and discover St. Petersburg AND the Russian language! If I compare myself to other students who have studied russian for 1 year in university courses I already know much more then they after 4 weeks here in the ProBa language school.
And even though I'm not a big fan of grammar, they gave me that kind of feeling for language and to understand how the language system works, so that I'm able to continue without any big problem.
Therefore I would recommend you if you want to learn Russian, that's the best place. |

I learned a lot. Especially the combination of lessons and communication with the host family was very good. Balance between different aspects is very good. More stress is on grammar and conversation, than on reading and writing, which I consider a good balance.
You offered the most interesting programme in comparison with other schools. I was very happy the school organised the trip to Novgorod. It would have been great if also more activities were organised, but I understand that I stayed in St. Petersburg during "very hot saison".
I can recommend take lessons in the ProBa Language school very much. I could advise you to stay with a host family, as this will help you a lot to learn how to speak Russian. |

A very good school! They have little groups and the lessons are communicative. For instance a course for two weeks could be a very good continuance after lessons in high school or other school. (the problem of language teaching in high schools in Finland is that it is very exam orientated.) |

I appreciated the quick identification of my skills at the very beginning of the course. My teacher Seva has a very thorough knowledge of the Russian Language. He has the great ability to explain understandably why things are as they are. The teacher had a great ability to evaluate where to put the focus of the course in order to make a maximum of progress in a short period of time. However, 2 weeks are definitely the absolute

For both the teachers and students it would be helpful, in my view, to change teachers for 2-3 session a week. We would hear different voices, and teachers would have relief from difficult students. I don't think that using only Russian for students, who know almost nothing of the language, is the best way to teach. We changed to part English-part Russian after a few days and made much more progress, "Modern" teaching methods aren't necesserily the best. Ivan Sheiko: A good, concientious and hard-working teacher. We made good progress in our second 2 weeks. He went out of his way to provide extra material, typing much of it at home in his own time.
He has a particularly good knowledge of the nuannnces of Russian and ita etymology. He may prefer to teach more educated students than us with his skills. I feel we got on very well together however. He has a delightful sense of humour!
It is useful to have a tangible sense of progression and a final goal in any study.
Hostfamily: Olga provided a very clean and tidy house with great food, and relationship was excellent. Olga went out of her way to talk to us in Russian and was always helpful. Strongly recommended. The children were also helpful and very courteous. |
